Nasturtiums In The Breeze

Photography By Sandra Foster
This is such an interesting pot display.  Love how the vine meanders over to the bird feeder.  The rock beside the pot keeps it from toppling over and adding visual interest too.  Thanks to Danny and Donna for the photo op.
Visit my Red Bubble Site for an interesting version of this in black and white using the "selective color technique".  Can be purchased as a card or gallery print etc there also.

Oriental Peony Blossom Macro

Macro Photography By Sandra Foster
When I purchased this perennial many years ago the root had just 2 eyes and very small.  I have divided it many times for my own gardens and have shared with others.  I was told it is considered rare hence the $40.00 for the tiny root at that time.  This blooms very early in the spring and is a nice bushy perennial of about 1 1/2 feet for the rest of the year.  I stake it to keep it from flopping over in the rain and wind.  The leaves are "fern" shaped and most beautiful.  One of my favorite perennials, which I highly recommend to any gardener.

Here is a photo of them in full bloom:

A round and around we go looking for something to anchor to.
Found it interesting how the macro lens revealed even the "hairs" on this tendril.

Lady's Mantel

Lady's Mantel By Sandra Foster
One of my favorite perennials.  Notice the leaf in the centre, just unfolding.  Raindrops sit on the leaves like garden diamonds after a refreshing rain.  After this plant blooms (yellow) I cut it off about 2 inches above the "crown" and it comes back as a nice tidy clump and stays that way for the rest of the season.

A Pleasant Sitting Spot

This was always a pleasant spot to sit and capture the morning sun rays or relax in the shade of the evening.  One year I planted Scented Evening Stock in the nearby flower bed ... oh so enjoyable in the evening also.

  Processed in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Bladder Campion Macro - Digital Oil Painting

This perennial looked rather weedy and insignificant in my back yard till I brought it in and took a Macro Shot of it with my Canon Macro Lens.  Love the detail on the blossoms. Used Akvis Software in Photoshop CS5 to create this Digital Oil Painting.

Hosta Blossom/Stamen Macro

Took this shot with a Canon Rebel using the Macro Lens.  Love the detail in the stamen that would not be noticed without the magnification of the lens.  This perennial blooms in early summer but the leaves are equally beautiful.

Valerian Blossoms

Took this shot with my Canon Rebel.  Added a wood texture for visual interest. This perennial grew to a height of 8 feet (with blossom) and bloomed for about 3 weeks.  The blossoms are fragrant, unlike the root which is quite offensive.  The root is used for medicinal purposes; a sleep/relaxant aid.

New Guinea Impatience Plant

I grew this as a outdoor potted plant. It bloomed till frost threatened then I brought it in and enjoyed it as a houseplant. The blossoms are very delicate.

Pericallas - Seneti Deep Blue Macro

This annual potted plant has such a beautiful blue blossom. Grew it for the photo opportunity of the blossoms.

Tagettes Macro - Marigold

A closeup (macro) shot of Tagettes. A small blossomed single petal marigold. I grow this plant in pots. It has fern style leaves with a pungent scent. One of my favorites - blooming till frost. When I bring the nursery plant home I snip off at least one third of the foliage. This gives it a nicer shrub look in the pots.

Monday, February 11, 2013

Gazania Macro

Grew as a potted plant. Love how the Macro shot revealed all the markings in this annual which bloomed all summer.

Blue Angel Blossom Macro

I love trying new plants. The foliage looked so lush but had no idea what the blossoms would like like. They are the most vibrant blue. I planted this annual in a pot and it bloomed all summer till frost. It grew about 1 1/2 feet high and the foliage had a very pungent smell. I found out later that it belongs to the sage family.
